Gema Wines is more than just a winery – we are a business that embraces the lifestyle and culture of the Monção region, with respect to the sustainable production and development of the vineyard. We are a family business that includes every employee, contractor, supplier and customer.

The Monteiro family has a long history of wine-making in the Alvarinho region of Monção and Melgaço. The goal for Gema Wines is to carry on the family’s traditions with the same pride and passion the region is known for. We believe wine should reflect the unique terroir and microclimate of the region from where each grape is grown. We are committed to sustainable winemaking practices honouring the grape, the land, the time, and the people who work it.

FOUNDERS
Paula and Miguel Monteiro, have spent the past 25 years honing their skills in their respective fields of teaching and architecture and have now come together to pursue their dream of creating outstanding wines in their homeland of Portugal.

Paula, born and raised in the Monção neighbourhood, has always had a deep connection to the land and a passion for teaching. Miguel, an architect with international experience in several countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, brings a wealth of business acumen and a global perspective to the table. Together, they combine their talents and expertise to create a truly unique and special winery.
